The APTOS STATION, built in 1875, was located in front of today’s Aptos Station shopping center, across the railroad tracks and a few hundred yards west of the Bayview Hotel.

Aptos was an important stop on the Santa Cruz Railroad beginning in 1875, even before service between Santa Cruz and Watsonville began the next year. The Santa Cruz Railroad was acquired by Southern Pacific in 1881, and Aptos Station was used into the 1930s, although service to Aptos continued into the 1960s. A Loma Prieta Railroad line from Aptos Creek canyon also used the Aptos Station from 1882 to 1889.
